Portable ham radio is ideal for off-grid camping, hiking, hunting, outdoor exploring, travel and more. Ham radios can be a reliable communication source where cellular signals may falter. They offer the ability to transmit and receive messages over long distances, ensuring that hikers and campers can maintain contact with fellow travelers or emergency services when needed. Things to know! If you utilize ham radio to transmit you are required to take a test for the Level 1 Technical license and apply for an FCC license. This training opportunity is an introduction to ham radio and training topics to support the Level 1 Technical license exam.
